Canacona Beach

Location: Goa's southernmost district, bordered by the taluka of Quepeum in the north, Sanguem in the north east, Karnataka in south and the Arabian Sea in the west.

Canacona is not merely a beach destination. The place is valuable for its historical aspects, majestic Sahyadri hills and the popular Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary. Moreover, Canacona is one of the five talukas that make up southern Goa. Earlier a power centre for the kingdom of Sund, Canacona was handed over to the Portuguese in 1791. Later, in 1794, the Portuguese merged it with state pf Goa. The beach was recognized as a major tourist destination after the visits of hippies from the world around. They found it an ideal place for lazy vacations and loud parties. Besides, they also considered it a spell-binding destination in terms of natural beauty and scenery.

The beach offers a lot to explore. While visiting the Canacona Beach, you may also roam to the nearby Pololem and Cavelossim Beach. The grandeur and elevated Sahyadri hills and the Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary are the two places considered as paradise for all the adventure enthusiasts. One can enjoy night camping, trekking and other adventurous water sports here.

This sun-kissed beach is popular for Goa's most striking and outstanding natural beauty. Surrounded by swaying palms and todi trees, this beach is the gateway to many of Goa's southern tip beaches including Agonda, Palolem and Rajbhag. You can find a number of eating joints and handicraft shops near the sands. It is a great charm to spend the night under the starry skies, with a camp-fire, and listening to the crashing of the waves against the shore.

How To Reach: You can reach Canacona by the direct Superfast Express trains from Mumbai, Panjim and Mangalore. Apart from this, the district lies on NH-17, hence, buses and taxis from other parts of Goa are easily available for Canacona. Bus services between Canacona and Margao are also quite frequent.
